David Seall's expertise and experience in the manufacturing, engineering and service sectors equip him with the insight and knowledge immediately applicable to the challenges faced by senior management teams.
David's engineering mindset, fused with his track record of leadership in business and in third sector organisations, positions him strongly as an independent director able to add significant value to corporate vision, strategy and governance. He is currently advising a number of businesses at director level on growth strategies, operational issues and on engagement with the manufacturing sector. For many years, David's views have been sought by national, regional and local government on policy linked to manufacturing, business support, skills development, science, technology and innovation, Until retiring in June 2017, he was the Regional Chairman of the Institute of Directors for the South East of England and prior to that was Chairman of IoD Surrey and a Member of IoD Council. He is a Visiting Professor, Former Chair of the Advisory Board and now founder and Chair of Leadership Academy at the University of Surrey Business School. David is also a Member of the Manufacturing Commission and advisor to the All Party Manufacturing Group. He is a member of the National Economic Policy Committee and Deputy Chair of the South East Regional Advisory Board for Make UK .
Previously he was Chief Executive of the Engineering Employers Federation for London and the South East (EEF South now Make UK) for over 10 years, working with hundreds of technology based companies after having a long career in the aerospace industry.
David received his technical training as a sponsored Graduate Apprentice within GEC-Marconi, working on underwater weapons systems, graduating with an Honours degree in Materials Science. He then joined British Aerospace's Hamble facility as a materials engineer, specialising in aircraft transparencies and advanced composites then leading the Research and Development function. He forged links with leading Universities. This was followed by a successful spell in international project management when he led teams to design and manufacture the Eurofighter Typhoon Supersonic Fuel Tank, the Airbus A300-600ST Beluga Main Cargo Door system (the largest aircraft door ever made) and the Boeing 737-700 wing fixed leading edge. Following this, David set up and led Hamble Design Services Ltd, a design bureau managing work packages for the major aircraft OEM's across the world. David succeeded in doubling turnover year-on-year. He was also approved by the CAA as a Head of Design and appointed Visiting Lecturer at the University of Southampton. David was a founder Director of the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium, a regional export and trade body.
For two years he chaired the Project Selection Committee of the South East European Union Regional Development Fund responsible for a multi million pound EU fund. He was also responsible for developing and leading the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) in London and the South East for many years.
Alongside his professional commitments, he has been a Trustee and member of the risk management committee at the
Farnham Maltings, a nationally acclaimed arts centre in Surrey. For 13 years he was a Trustee and audit committee member of Hampshire Technology Centre Trust, a science experience centre attracting nearly 120.000 children every year. He was also a Trustee of Oakleaf Enterprise, a social enterprise helping those with mental health issues for three years.
