Business Acumen Fused with an Engineer’s Mindset
David is steeped in industry. He is an experienced Director, Advisor and Chartered Engineer. He is the Regional Chairman of the Institute of Directors for the South East of England and a Member of the national IoD Council. Previously he was Chief Executive of the Engineering Employers Federation for London and the South East (EEF South) for over 10 years, working with hundreds of technology based companies. He has expertise in strategic management, business planning, design, engineering, manufacturing, project management and digital/social media. He is an exponent of "Lean Manufacturing" and increasing operational efficiency. For many years he has advised National, Regional and Local government on business support, skills development, science and technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, and Innovation. He has been a non-executive Director and Trustee for nearly 20 years.

David now follows a "plural" career working with DMH Stallard LLP, one of the leading law firms in the South East, in a non-executive capacity as Strategic Advisor- Manufacturing. He is Chairman of the Board Practice at Ramsey Hall a specialist executive search firm. He advises G&B Electronics Designs Ltd as a Business Strategist and is a Board Advisor at PyTerra Ltd, a water services business. He has worked with Portsmouth Aviation Ltd, Fedden USP and Ecopare Ltd as an Independent Director. He works with various companies involved with investment activities from banks to Angel networks through to VC/PE investors and Government supported programmes such as the BGF. He regularly publishes blogs and has two columns in regional business magazines. He also runs a project management and consultancy as Director of Ovedo Ltd.

Strategic Insight: David works within businesses to help them create and achieve their growth aspirations. He guides the development of strategies and the consequential detailed programmes to turn the strategy into reality. He has an extensive network to help find prospective partners and customers through conventional means a through social media and business network building.

Good Governance: As a member of the IoD's National Council he has contributed to the debate on good governance and helped guide the IoD's policy initiatives on this topic. David is an experienced contributor at board level to governance structures, is able to articulate best practice processes and is an advocate of transparency and open communication as a means of achieving business objectives. He has served on numerous boards and on nomination, risk, pension advisory, remuneration and audit committees.

Operational Effectiveness: Aside from his strategic leadership, David is an acknowledged expert in 'Lean Manufacturing' and 'Lean Enterprise'. As a result, he is a regular advisor on the development and implementation of major process change programmes.

David is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Member of the Institute of Materials, Mineralogy and Mining and a Member of the IoD. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of World Traders. In his spare time he is also a member of the English Cricket Board Coaches Association with a level 2 accreditation.
